My name is Jamie Barr and I am currently a Sophomore at Liberty University studying to become an Elementary Educator. I grew up in a small suburb right outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where I attended a small school and realized my passion to become an educator. At a very young age I not only displayed a great love for people, but a strong desire to help people which sparked a thought in me to consider becoming a teacher in the future in order to impact the lives of my students in a positive and powerful way. I held onto this idea all throughout my schooling and as I encountered more teachers and developed relationships with them, my desire to teach grew stronger. Towards the end of my high school career I began getting more involved with children in the community, tutoring, and helping out in classrooms and I knew without a shadow of a           doubt that teaching was what I wanted to do with my life.

The thing about teaching is that it is not just a job. Teaching is a chance to change a student’s life; to instill a love for learning that they will take with them throughout the rest of their lives. Brad Henry once said, “A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning” and it is my hope that I will be able to do all of those things as I enter into the world of teaching.
